Very Healthy – But Tasty – Apple and BlackBerry crumble

Less Sugar, and Fat; Minimal Saturated Fat - Serves 4

· 1 Medium Braeburn eating apple, unpeeled, cored, halved, and cut into thin slices

· 1 Medium Royal Gala eating apple, unpeeled, cored, halved, and cut into thin slices

· 100g – 150g frozen blackberries to taste (lower in sugar, higher in nutrients than punnets from the supermarket)

· 60g plain wholemeal flour

· 1/2tsp cinnamon

· 35g soft brown sugar

· 20g - 25g porridge oats to taste

· 40g butter substitute (to taste)

750ml glass casserole dish

Method

To make the crumble topping: Put the flour and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well, then stir in the sugar and the oats. Add the butter substitue gradually and mix with your fingertips until the mixture is the texture of breadcrumbs.

Place the thinly sliced apples into the dish so all the bottom is covered, then the blackberries, then the remaining apples.

Lay the crumble mixture on top of the fruit.

Preheat the oven to 170°C/ 150°C Fan/Gas 3 and bake the crumble for about 40 mins until the top is golden and you can see the juices bubbling.

Serve with homemade reduced sugar custard or ice cream
